3 days Marrakech desert itinerary:

DAY 1 : MARRAKECH – AIT BEN HADDOU – OUARZAZATE – DADES

3 days Marrakech desert tour departure: We collect you on the first morning of the tour either from your Marrakech accommodation or, if necessary, from the airport. Departing the city towards the High Atlas, we traverse the beautiful Tizi-N-Tichka mountain pass at a height of 2260 meters. Traveling further south, we will visit the famous kasbah of Ait Ben-Haddou (a UNESCO World Heritage site) where we can take lunch and refreshments. We continue in the direction of Ouarzazate (the “Hollywood of Morocco”), through the palm oasis of Skoura and the Valley of Roses before finally arriving at the Dades Valley. Here we will take a walking tour of the magnificent Dades Gorge and stay overnight at a comfortable hotel.

DAY 2 : DADES – TODRA GORGE – ERFOUD – MERZOUGA

After breakfast at the hotel, we depart the Dades Valley with ample opportunity along the way to take photographs and admire the stunning panoramic views. Arriving at the beauty spot of Todra Gorge, we will stop to enjoy a coffee or typical mint tea before continuing south towards the oasis city of Erfoud (famous for its date palms and prehistoric fossils). From Erfoud, we journey on to Merzouga and the famous sand dunes of Erg Chebbi (the largest due system in Morocco). Here we swap four wheels for four legs as we camel-trek across the dunes to a typical Bedouin desert camp. Arriving in time to watch the sunset, we will spend an unforgettable night at the nomad encampment; a delicious traditional tajine dinner is provided before you are invited to enjoy traditional singing and dancing beneath the desert stars.

DAY 3 : MERZOUGA – RISSANI – DRAA VALLEY – MARRAKECH.

After watching the sun rise above the dunes and enjoying a nourishing breakfast, we leave the desert camp and trek back to the Merzouga hotel where we can shower and refresh. We depart Merzouga heading towards the desert town of Rissani, where we visit its famous and colorful souk market. We travel via the Draa Valley with plenty of opportunity to stop for photographs, refreshments or to admire the stunning scenery. We pass through the city of Agdz before crossing the mountains of the Anti-Atlas and finally arriving in Marrakech in the late evening where we can transfer you to your accommodation.

posticon Excursion to Telouet Kasbah

1 Day trip from Marrakech to Telouet Kasbah

Excursion itinerary:

Those interested in Moorish architecture or the history of Morocco should head towards the dramatic scenery of the Atlas Mountains where they will find Telouet Kasbah. Sometimes known as the Palace of Glaoui, it is a historic kasbah built along the old Sahara caravan route in the Atlas mountains and one of the most splendid examples of Moorish architecture remaining in Morocco today. We depart early from Marrakech, traversing the High Atlas Mountains at Tizi n’Tichka Pass which, at 2260m above sea level, offers ample photo opportunities and spectacular views. About 5km along the road descending from the pass towards Ouarzazate, a narrow road leads off to Telouet Kasbah in a steep, scenic valley. The kasbah of Telouet was the principal residence of Thami El Glaoui (known as The Lord of the Atlas) and the opulent decor demonstrates the wealth and power accumulated by its occupants. Some of the finest surviving examples of craftsmanship anywhere in Morocco are contained in two reception rooms at Telouet; adorned with traditional tile work, engraved stucco work, and painted cedar ceilings the rooms feature windows strategically placed to give unrivaled views across the valleys of the Atlas mountains. We spend the day exploring the kasbah (with a knowledgeable local guide) and the surrounding areas before returning via the Atlas mountains to your accommodation in Marrakech. This excursion can be adapted to include a visit to the Ait Ben-Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
